Community Guidelines

Every rider and driver agrees to these guidelines. They are simple: be respectful, put safety first, follow the law and use FlexRides fairly.

Treat everyone with respect

Riders, drivers and our team deserve courtesy on every trip.

Put safety first

Follow the rules of the road, wear seatbelts and report anything that feels wrong.

Play fair

Honest offers, honest ratings, and every trip and payment through the app.

Respect

  • No discrimination. Do not refuse, cancel, rate or treat anyone differently because of race, colour, national or ethnic origin, religion, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, marital or family status, or any other ground protected by the New Brunswick Human Rights Act or the Canadian Human Rights Act.
  • No harassment. No threats, insults, unwanted comments about someone's appearance, flirting, or questions about personal matters. Do not contact anyone after a trip, except to return a lost item through the app.
  • No sexual misconduct. Any unwanted touching, sexual comments or behaviour is forbidden. Riders and drivers should not date or seek a relationship with each other through FlexRides.
  • No violence. Physical contact, threats of violence and aggressive behaviour are never acceptable.
  • Respect the car and the rider's space. Riders: leave the car as you found it. Drivers: keep the car clean, and ask before changing the music or temperature for a rider.

Safety

  • Weapons. Riders may not bring weapons on a trip. Drivers may not carry weapons at any time while online, even where the law allows it. This includes firearms, ammunition, knives, stun guns and pepper spray.
  • Drugs and alcohol. Zero tolerance for drivers: never drive under the influence of alcohol, cannabis, drugs or medication that affects driving. Riders may not bring open alcohol or use drugs in the vehicle. If you believe your driver is impaired, end the trip as soon as it is safe, call 911, and report it in the app.
  • Smoking. No smoking or vaping in the vehicle, by riders or drivers.
  • Seatbelts and the law. Everyone wears a seatbelt. Children need the car seat the law requires, which the rider must provide. Drivers obey traffic laws and speed limits, and do not use a phone by hand while driving.
  • The right car, the right person. Riders: check the plate, car and driver photo before getting in. Drivers: only the approved driver may drive under an account, in the approved vehicle.
  • Riders under 18. Children and teens may not ride alone. A driver may decline or cancel a ride for an unaccompanied minor.
  • Recording. Do not record or broadcast another person without their consent where the law requires it, and never post recordings of riders or drivers online.

Fair use

  • Keep it in the app. Do not arrange rides, payments or price changes outside FlexRides. Trips outside the app are not covered by our safety features or support.
  • Honest offers. Drivers: do not accept a fare and then demand more, or ask a rider to cancel. Riders: do not ask a driver to cancel to avoid a fee.
  • Honest ratings and reports. Rate the trip, not the person. Do not use ratings or false reports to threaten or retaliate.
  • One person, one account. No shared, sold or fake accounts, and no misuse of promotions or referrals.
  • Accessibility. Service animals are always welcome. Refusing a rider because of a service animal or a mobility aid is discrimination. See Accessibility.
  • Lost items. Drivers: if you find something after a trip, report it in the app so it can be returned.

If the guidelines are broken

Report a problem from the trip in the app, or use the Emergency button if you are in danger. Our team reviews every report. Depending on what happened, we may give a warning, require training, suspend the account while we investigate, or close it permanently. Serious incidents are reported to the police. Where safety allows, we tell the person what we found and give them a chance to respond, and a person reviews every appeal.
