Rides that work for everyone
FlexRides should be easy to use and welcoming for riders and drivers with disabilities. Here is what you can expect, and how to tell us when something falls short.
Service animals
Service animals ride at no extra charge, always. A driver may not refuse a rider because of a service animal, even if they have allergies or a no-pets preference. Refusing is a violation of our Community Guidelines and can lead to the driver's account being closed.
Mobility aids
Drivers help store foldable wheelchairs, walkers, canes and similar aids that fit safely in the car, at no extra charge. FlexRides does not yet offer wheelchair-accessible vehicles.
The apps
The apps support screen readers (TalkBack and VoiceOver), larger text sizes, and light and dark themes, with labels on every button and colours chosen for readable contrast.
Riders with disabilities
- You can message or call your driver through the app to explain where to meet you or what help you need.
- Riders who are deaf or hard of hearing can rely on in-app messages; the app shows trip updates on screen as well as by notification.
- If a driver refuses you or your service animal, or charges you for it, report it from the trip in the app. We refund any charge caused by the refusal and act on the driver's account.
The website
flexrides.ca is designed to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA: it works with a keyboard and screen readers, scales with your browser's text size, and does not rely on colour alone.
Feedback
